Medicare

Medicare part A  covers expenses related to hospital stays, skilled nurse care, hospice, and home health care. Most of the time, part A is free and is included in all Medicare plans.

Medicare part B is medical insurance that covers things such as operations, doctors' services, preventative care, ambulance, and clinical visits. There is a monthly premium included with part B. Usually, parts A and B are coupled and referred to as Original Medicare.

Medicare Part is known as Medicare Advantage. Medicare Advantage plans are through private insurance companies and include the benefits of Original Medicare. There are several other benefits that can be included in an Advantage plan, such as prescription drugs, vision, dental, and hearing. Because the plans are through private companies, benefits, as well as premiums and other costs, may vary. 

Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage. It is also offered through private insurance carriers. Part D can be included as part of a Medicare Advantage plan, or it can be an add-on to Original Medicare. Part D plans can vary in coverage, as well as premiums and co-pays for drugs.

Medigap is supplemental insurance that aids out-of-pocket costs related to Original Medicare. It is sold through private insurance carriers and there are a variety of options available based on needs.
